21. Ending — Machu Picchu to the left series

I arrived in the late afternoon in Hong Kong. I took a taxi from Airport Express to Viv’s place. She was on a short trip back home in Malaysia. I found the key hidden in the shoe cabinet at the corridor and got myself in.

The very day I was back, a typhoon hit Hong Kong after the midnight. For the first time since I was here, it was a T10.

Hong Kong could be the only place where people celebrate the arrival of typhoons. Once a signal No.8 is issued by Hong Kong Observatory, the office people will automatically have a day off. Living in the concrete jungle on Hong Kong Island, we barely feel anything during T8. In SYP, we have T8 party on the day — brunch till 4 pm and then continue to drink at Viv’s place. There will be two or three T8 each year, but I wouldn’t see I have “technically” seen a typhoon. Most of time I was like, “Really? This is a typhoon? How disappointing.”

This time T10 has scared everyone to the core. I literally felt the building was swaying. It was loud outside — rain pouring down and slapping to the window, trees falling over and the branches breaking. I didn’t know if the house window can hold on till the next minute.

I received a message from Viv, “Sabrina, you better not go out!”

I took a photo outside the window where two big trees falling on the Eastern Street and sent to Viv, “I’m definitely not that adventurous.”

“My drawer has cabbage, pantry got noodles and freezer got dumplings. You can eat and drink whatever that’s at home.” Mama Viv was on top of her household.

I got myself a cup of tea and sat down on the sofa with my kindle. This typhoon has made the time stopped. No need to go out and view apartments. No need to stress how far behind I was left. No need to think what to do next.

Just savor the moment. I wouldn’t miss much.
